Contact Details

The new purpose built maternity unit, opened in January 2001, is based at Rochdale Infirmary. Rochdale is in an urban/rural area of Lancashire. The client group is quite diverse.

The maternity services are integrated hospital and community, enabling staff to rotate.

There are antenatal clinics held both in the hospital and the community. There is an antenatal day care unit where any pregnant woman can be reviewed.
We have teenage pregnancy midwives to provide tailored care and support for the teenagers and their family.

Our maternity unit delivers approximately 1800 women per year. We have a seven-roomed labour ward with a pain relief pool and a theatre/recovery area. All the labour rooms are en suite and there are several en suite rooms within the antenatal and postnatal areas. There is also provision for homebirths.

Hospital tours are available within parent craft classes and may also be arranged with the community midwives (contact number above).

Parent craft classes and aquanatal classes are available four times a week. Contact community midwives for details.

We have a multidisciplinary approach to care for women throughout the antenatal, labour and postnatal periods and also for the newborn. This is supported by regularly reviewed guidelines. Care for each mother and baby is individually planned with the mother, midwife and other relevant health professionals.
